Save Energy
According to EnergyStar.gov, roughly half of your total household energy consumption is used for heating and cooling. So it’s not surprising that the greatest potential for energy savings will likely be found in your heating and cooling system!
Cut Your Taxes!
For a limited time, homeowners can also receive a tax credit of 30% of the cost of energy-saving improvements – up to a total credit of $1,500. In effect, the federal government is reimbursing homeowners for a portion of their investment in qualifying energy-saving home improvements.
Note: A tax credit is different than a tax deduction, in that a tax credit lowers your total federal income tax obligation by the full amount of your credit.
The energy tax credit is for:
- Qualifying oil, propane or natural gas systems, heat pumps, and air conditioning systems placed in service now through Dec 31, 2010
- Improvements to existing homes
- 30% of the system cost, including installation
- Maximum credit of $1500
For geo-thermal heat pumps:
- existing homes OR new homes
- 30% of the cost (no maximum credit)
- For systems placed in service now through Dec 31, 2016
