|  Because
of the trust our Automatic Delivery customers place
in us, one of the worst things we can imagine is any
of them running out of fuel! (Everyone has their nightmares…
this is ours!) Yet it happens.
Surprisingly
enough, severe cold is rarely, if ever, the cause!
We schedule automatic deliveries based on both of
the following criteria:
- Outdoor
temperature, using the industry standard “degree-day” system.
(This system does not factor in wind chill.)
- Your
actual household consumption history.
(Three deliveries is usually enough to establish
a consumption pattern.)
While we admit that we are not immune to mistakes, what
we almost always discover, as we work with the customer
to solve a problem, is that something else
has caused household consumption to change.
Changes
in our patterns of fuel consumption can occur without
us even realizing it. In fact, dozens of
things can cause us to turn up our thermostats more
that we normally would:
- a new baby
- frequent company
- older persons visiting or living with us
- illness
- newly-finished
basements and additions to our homes
- decreased use
of wood stoves, space heaters, and fireplaces;
- a furnace
that needs a tune-up
The list goes on...
When
any of these sorts of changes take place, or you just
feel like you are reaching for the thermostat more
than usual, give us a call. We’ll help recalculate
your usage, or schedule a service call to check your
heating system.
Another
reason customers run out of fuel during snowy weather
is impassable private roads and driveways. Customers
can help us by making sure our delivery trucks can
reach their tanks.
