You know prices are high when the people who sell and deliver fuel are taking steps to increase their own fuel mileage!
That's exactly what Tevis Oil and Propane has been doing since May, when Delivery Operations Manager, Ed Welch, put out a challenge to all his drivers to squeeze as many miles from a gallon of fuel as possible. According to Welch, drivers got behind the effort 100%.
By reducing rate of acceleration at stop lights, reducing idle time, and watching tire pressure, Driver Supervisor, Wayne Canaday, reports a 6% reduction in fuel consumption. Canaday explains, "with the number of miles our drivers cover in a day, they are saving the Company hundreds of gallons of fuel a month. That has a meaningful impact now and as we look to the busy months ahead."
Jack Tevis, President and CEO of Tevis Oil agrees. "We're not immune to the effects of high fuel costs." he says. "Like everyone these days, we have to find ways to save on fuel wherever we can, and I appreciate the efforts our drivers are making to help us keep our costs down."
To celebrate their success, all employees were treated to a barbeque lunch at its John Street location in Westminster on June 26.
